Funded in partnership by local and central government, the Total Mobility scheme assists eligible people with long-term impairments to access appropriate transport to meet their daily needs and enhance their community participation.
This assistance is provided in the form of subsidised door-to-door transport services wherever transport providers operate.
The Total Mobility Scheme provides subsidised taxi services to people who have an impairment that prevents them from undertaking a journey unaccompanied, on a bus, train or ferry in a safe and dignified manner.
The scheme provides vouchers or electronic cards to eligible scheme members that discount the normal taxi (or specialist transport provider) fare.
On the West Coast, the subsidy covers 75% of the fare up to a maximum fare of $30.
This means the council will pay three-quarters of your taxi fare up to a maximum meter fare of $30.
Any additional fare over that amount must be paid by the user.
Note: The subsidy was increased in 2022 as part of the Government's response to the cost of living crisis.
